Remodel Health

Record numbers of American employees are changing jobs for better benefits. But with group health insurance costs going up every year, how can you possibly find something better for employees without breaking your budget?

The good news is that American health benefits have gone through a huge change, even though you may not have heard about it yet. It’s actually the same change that retirement benefits went through back in the 1980s when group pension plans were replaced by individual 401(k) plans. Employers saved tons of money and employees got better benefits.

The great news is that the 401(k) of health benefits has been around and growing for over a decade. And unlike old group plans, because this style of health benefits has become so popular, it’s actually gone down in cost while giving even better coverage to employees. Small organizations and enterprise groups alike are saving millions of dollars. Imagine what savings like that could do for you and your mission.

I know that since you’re listening to this podcast, it means you like to learn, which is perfect because learning is your first step! Remodel Health is offering a FREE educational webinar that will teach you everything you need to know to understand the 401(k) of health benefits.

Register today by going to remodelhealth.com/webinar and learn about this huge change in employee benefits that could help you care for your team better than ever!

Insights From Dave

1. “Empathetic honesty” is an essential virtue for leaders (and the church) to develop

There’s a common saying, “Everyone you know is fighting a battle you know nothing about.” The way in which we interact and respond with people going through very public struggles is being observed by people going through similar situations—and they’re taking notes.

It’s easy to throw stones and judgments around (and it’ll certainly score you a lot of points in our current cultural moment), but it’ll ultimately erode the trust and safety of your team or church. You don’t want to create an environment in which people are scared to be vulnerable, or don’t feel as if they can be honest with what’s going on in their lives. In other words, be careful and be kind.

2. Don’t create art with your critics in mind

In today’s rage-filled world, it’s easy to let criticism—even from complete strangers on the Internet—dictate what you create. The truth is, you’re never going to create something that’s universally beloved—and if you use that as your personal standard, you’ll end up creatively paralyzed and never producing anything of value. Never let the criticism of the 10% stop you from creating work that will benefit the 90%.

And, a word about critics—it’s easy to criticize from the sidelines. And, the Internet just makes it so much easier to lob hurtful and judgmental comments toward people taking a risk. If you’re a creator, learn to recognize that bravery, risk and vulnerability is inherent in the creative process, but that’s what makes putting something out into the world worth it.

3. You weren’t born to live a “safe” life

Through the interview, Dave discusses the difficulty and personal struggles he’s experienced over the past couple of years. However, along the way, he also opens up some of the lessons he’s been learning about himself. In one of the most striking parts of the interview, Dave talks about a tattoo he has that reads, “A ship in harbor is safe, but it’s not what ships are built for.”

In life, we’re constantly encouraged to stay within our comfort zones and not step out in faith—we’re taught, in short, to fear the ocean. And for good reason—the “ocean” is scary. But you’re not going to learn much or grow as you should if you constantly play it safe in the harbor. In our own lives, then, we need to view the unknown as an opportunity for personal introspection, character growth and courageous living.

Your ability to have a hopeful vision of the future is a thing that creates for you power, strength, confidence, and belief in the present. @MrDaveHollis Share on XIf you end up believing that life's against you, and it's unfair, and nothing ever happens the way that you'd hope for it to - then you will find what you’re looking for. @MrDaveHollis Share on XIf you're not a believer and you see the way that believers treat their own, what invitation is that for you to step inside of that circle? @MrDaveHollis Share on XThere's freedom in releasing yourself from any conceited belief that you’re going to create something, or be something, or say something that is universally loved. @MrDaveHollis Share on X
